This is my first full review of a book on my channel. I will discuss both positive and negative aspects I have found in this book and then I'll talk about th. Miyamoto Musashi is a samurai whose words and opinions still reverberate through modern Japan. Musashi was a ronin – a samurai with no master – who lived during the Sengoku period. He’s remembered today mainly as the author of The Book of Five Rings, a text on the strategy and philosophical implications of samurai combat.
I am new to collecting/reading books on the Samurai periods in Japan,and with all due respect to Turnbull and many of the other prolific authors on this subject,this is the perfect book to wonderfully clear drawings,coupled with the brilliant use of photos of Samurai re-enactors(many descended from the samurai themselves) the arms and armor are much clearer to . This book is a short history of the Samurai. The book is formatted somewhat as an outline. Reading this book made me want to learn more about the Samurai. The Samurai were not just warriors. They had a strong moral ethical code and more interestingly made significant contributions to arts and culture(I don't associate warriors with the arts).
